There is no alternative of the participation of women in the decision-making of political parties to make sure gender sensitive democracy
From all corner of thinking this is almost established that there is no alternative of the participation of women in political process so as to make the democratic process stable. This is noteworthy that the mainstream political parties of Bangladesh are agreed upon the principle that the participation of women in the decision making level will be increased in number. In the latest election held in the year 2008, Bangladesh experiences a noteworthy number of women candidates in the candidature of different political parties. But the ratio of the women participation as the winner is not at all in the satisfactory level. Lots of work has to be done to make the equal partcipation of women in the political parties of Bangladesh.  As a district of Bangladesh, Chuadanga is SAME, no exception yet. The national strategy is present in this district too. For some extent, the ratio of the women participation of chuadanga is in frustrating level.  The picture of the women participation in the rural areas of chuadanga is very miserable compare to city areas.

Note:
*There are 32 Unions in Chuadanga, but election was held in 28 Unions, remaining election of the 4 unions was stopped.
* UP means Union Parishad
* In UP Election, for male Participant: 28 Union x 9 wards => 252, For Female Participant: 28 Union x 3 wards x 1 seat per 3 wards=>84
* Percentage = 60% current Male Winner and 10-15% female winners are from the previous election winner

From the above data available in our hand shows clear demonstration of poor presence of women in the district election of Chuadanga. Women get a chance of contesting in reserved seat for different positions of UP election, even one of them contested against their male counterpart, but was not able to win. Because they did not have the political support from the political parties. And there is no participation of women against male candidate in Upazila election. This is a vital statistics that in absence of reserve seat, No women candidature found to contest against male counterpart as they don’t get the support from political parties. Even no Strong women candidature came out against male candidature as the skill level of the women candidate was not strong as expected both politically and technically.

This is very surprising but true that the women candidates of the reserved seat were contested for 3 wards. So their political importance and power should be greater than the male winner winning in just 1 ward. But in practice, this is observed that the women winner is not able to get their lawful rights. Even they are not capable of implementing their pre-election commitment due to the non-cooperation from the male counterpart. As a result, if we mark the women winner of election as the advance women, the advanced women of the society lost the spirit of protesting in the next election with a fear of facing the truth of the failure to fulfill the pre-election commitment in the last election. Even they are loosing their will-power to contest in the next election with the fear of repeating of the past of failure to fulfill the pre-election commitment again. The participation of the women became a trap for them.  Thus the advanced woman of the society either lost from the mainstream political activities or goes backward.  So, there is no alternative of the skill development of the women participant both politically and technically.

Another important thing to note is the women participants of the election comes-up with the continuous work of women awareness programme by the local NGOs, citizen groups etc. over the years. And this is a continuous work to sustain the progress. When the women winner of the election did not get the legislative right and subsequent power of authority, she gets frustrated and the dignity of that women winner gets lower in front of the voters of her area.
