Dr. Rasel Das, an idol of Bangladesh, awarded with ‘Elsevier Atlas Award’ for his research on purifying the sea water

Dr. Rasel Das (Bengali: রাসেল দাস), is an idol of Bangladesh, awarded along with his team mates for his research work on purifying the sea water. He was awarded with ‘Elsevier Atlas Award 2015’ in 2015. He has done his research on Carbon nanotube membranes for water Purification as part of completing his PHD degree.

This award is awarded in each year in every trades of science (including Physics, Chemistry, Health) by selecting the best research paper from research papers published in journals worldwide.

According to, ‘With over 2,500 journals publishing articles from across science, technology and health, our mission is to share some of the stories that matter. Each month Atlas showcases research that could significantly impact people’s lives around the world or has already done so. We hope that bringing wider attention to this research will go some way to ensuring its successful implementation.

With so many worthy articles published the tough job of selecting a single article to be awarded “The Atlas” each month comes down to an Advisory Board. The winning research is presented alongside interviews, expert opinions, multimedia and much more on the Atlas website’.

According to one of the press releases of, ‘About 400 million people are using desalinated water and it has been projected that 14 % of the global population will be forced to use sea water by 2025. Desalination plants already provide much of the water used by people in many parts of the world, especially in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. Climate change is only increasing the demand for desalinated water as greater evaporation and rising seas further limit freshwater supplies for a growing world population. But current methods to desalinate water come at a very high cost in terms of energy, which means more greenhouse gases and more global warming. Existing desalination plants rely on reverse osmosis, vacuum distillation, or a combination of the two. But those methods are energy intensive and costly. Carbon nanotubes are tiny hexagonal tubes, made by rolling sheets of graphene, said Rasel Das, first author of the paper. They require little energy and can be designed to specifically reject or remove not only salt, but also common pollutants’.

Mr. Das was born on 17th June, 1987. He had completed his graduation in 2009 and Post-graduation in 2011 from Chittagong Science and Technology University with first class grading in Bio-technology. Later he had joined in Chittagong Science and Technology University as Lecturer in Biotechnology department in 2012. He admitted later in PHD in Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Center, University of Malaya, 50603 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2012 where he contributes to the research along with his team-mates Md. Eaqub Ali, Sharifah Bee Abd Hamid, Seeram Ramakrishna, Zaira Zaman Chowdhury.

Jawed Karim, the co-founder of Youtube, is a Bangladeshi origin German-American engineer

The Bangladeshi born German American, Mr. Jawed karim (Bengali : জাওয়েদ করিম), had founded YouTube, one of the most popular video sharing website of the world as a co-founder with Chad Hurley and Steve Chen in 2005. YouTube is the third most visited website in the world, behind Google and Facebook. Its users will soon be uploading 1 million videos every day. It is revolutionizing advertising, broadcasting, music and the media. The first video of YouTube, Me at the zoo; the great-granddaddy of millions that followed, is an 18-second clip of Karim standing by the elephant pen at a California zoo was uploaded by Karim at 8.27 PM on April 23, 2005. In a speech of Jawed Karim on 13th May 2007 at the University of Illinois’ annual ACM Conference, Jawed gave a lecture about the history of YouTube entitled YouTube: From Concept to Hyper-growth as the 136th and youngest Commencement Speaker in the school’s history. The lecture material also contained pictures and videos of Jawed, Chad and Steve from the garage days of YouTube.

Naimul Karim, a Bangladeshi American researcher at 3M is the proud father of Karim and Christine Karim, a German scientist and research associate professor of biochemistry at the University of Minnesota is his proud mother. Jawed was the first child for Naimul Karim and Christine who had met as students at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg in Germany, fallen in love and gotten married. Naimul Karim, residence of DIT quarters in Shiddheswari, had moved to Leipzig, Germany in 1975 from Bangladesh. He stood first in the combined merit list for Dhaka Division Secondary (SSC) exams in 1972. There, he had to learn German before entering the regular programme to get his “Diplom” (equivalent to Master’s degree) in chemistry.
Naim and Christine got married and a year later, they were graced with the birth of Jawed. Almost 30 years later, Naim is an accomplished scientist at 3M Corporation with 30+ patents to his name and Christine is an assistant professor of biochemistry at the University of Minnesota. Another son, Ilias was born in 1989, also in Germany.
Karim was born in Merseburg of then East Germany (Deutsche Demokratische Republik or East Germany) on January 1, 1979. His family had crossed the Berlin Wall by the year 1980 and he had brought up in Neuss, then West Germany. His family moved to United States in 1992, two years after German reunification at 13 years of his age for whom, technically, English was the third language. He had completed his graduation from Central High School in Minnesota and later joined in University of Illinois where Marc Andreessen, and other creators of the first popular Web browser, Mosaic, the precursor to what became known the world over as the Netscape Internet browser, attended.
He left campus prior to graduating to become an early employee at PayPal, but continued his coursework, achieving his Bachelor of Science in computer science. Many of the core components of PayPal, including its real-time anti-fraud system, were designed and implemented by Karim during his service in PayPal.
He had met Chad Hurley and Steve Chen at the time of working in Paypal, the payment service to eBay in 2002. The three later had founded the YouTube video sharing website in 2005 altogether. The three agreed within a few days in February, and then divided work based on skills: Hurley designed the site’s interface and logo. Chen and Karim split technical duties making the site work. They later divided management responsibilities, based on strengths and interests: Hurley became CEO; Chen, chief technology officer. Karim had already planned to resume computer studies, so he opted out of management and agreed to take a smaller ownership stake than the other two founders. He continued advising YouTube as advisor. The growth of the site was so unparalleled that YouTube was sold to Google for $1.65bn 20 months later since founding in October 2006. Karim says his idea for what became YouTube sprang from two very different events in 2004: Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction,” during a Super Bowl show, and the Asian tsunami.
After founding the company and developing the YouTube video website with Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, Karim had re-enrolled as a graduate student in computer science at Stanford University while continued acting as an advisor to YouTube. The story had find an end when they had decided to sell YouTube to Google with a deal in which Karim had received 137,443 shares of stock, worth about $64 million based on Google’s closing stock price of that time.
YouTube’s expansion has not been without growing pains. Inside, the site’s community spirit has been shaken by debates over authenticity after the exposure of the likes of LonelyGirl15, the home-schooled American teen who turned out to be a New Zealand actor. Outside, it has been challenged legally by companies including Viacom and the English Premier League over copyright infringements and, more widely, by critics who see it as grotesquely trivial and narcissistic.
Karim was also contributed in developing computer games, particularly, a game that used to be very famous some 10 plus years ago called Doom. In his continued effort, Karim has launched a venture fund called Youniversity Ventures in March 2008, with the goal of helping current and former university students to develop and launch their business ideas. He also advises and invests in (local shopping search). He is now one of the backers of San Francisco-based Dotblu, which runs a “social betting service” designed to let people turn Twitter and Facebook status updates into a game.

This is Shahriar Nirjon (Bengali: শাহরিয়ার নির্জন), a Bangladeshi born engineer who invented the ‘musical heart’ which can play music based on heart beat of different situation of user.
Musical Heart is created with the combination of Hardware and Software. An earphone is used as hardware in which sensor was included which can count the heart beat. His technology will mix with the heartbeat to play song by choosing songs from the play list.
This technology can understand what the user is doing (sleeping, running, standing or walking) through the earphone. This information can sent to Smartphone through audio jack in which the app was installed. The work of the app is to play the right music from the playlist based on the situation of the user. Even this app can play a music which helps to increase heartbeat if the user feels to increase his / her heart beat. But this depends on the regular use of the user. This innovation was presented in the 10th Comuting Machinary Conference on Embeded Networked Sensor System in November, 2012 in Toronto of Canada.
Shahriar Nirjon had completed his studies from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and moved to University of Verginia of United States in 2008. He had researched in Sensing and Embedded Network System of Smartphone. As part of this, he had created an application called, ‘Musical Heart’.
He had received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Virginia, under the supervision of Jack Stankovic in August, 2014. In his career also, he was successful. He had worked as ‘researcher’ in the Networking and Mobility Lab at the HP Labs (2014-2015). Later he had joined in the UNC Chapel Hill as an Assistant Professor (2015).

Sabirul Islam, a Bangladeshi British citizen inspires millions of youth worldwide through his brain-child

Yes, He is Mr. Sabirul Islam (Bengali: সাবিরুল ইসলাম), A Bangladeshi origin British citizen who made history with all the above facts.
Sabirul was born in Tower Hamlets, London, England on 12th July 1990 and grew up in London, England. He attended Swanlea School. In 2008, he left City and Islington College. He is the eldest among his five siblings-two younger brother and three younger sisters. He is the son of his parent who belongs to Sylhet, a district of Bangladesh.
He had written his first book, The World at Your Feet at the age of 17. In the first nine months since the launch, over 42,500 copies of his book were sold which grows now to 60,000 copies worldwide. In June, 2009, he had launched a game, Teen-Trepreneur which teaches key aspects of business from sales, to investment, expenses to loans and the even understanding the stock exchange. The game was intended to educate young people about enterprise, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. This game has been integrated into the BTEC Business Qualification in over 500 schools across the UK. The game has sold over 300,000 copies in 14 countries world-wide. His second book The World at Your Feet: Three Strikes to a Successful Entrepreneurial Life was published. In February 2012, his third book, Young Entrepreneur World: How 25 Teen-Trepreneurs Succeeded and Left World Leaders Scratching Their Heads was published. The book contained interviews with 25 of the most influential and successful entrepreneurs around the world, who share their journeys, thoughts and ideologies on a personal, business and political level. Sumaya Kazi, the founder of, one of the most influential entrepreneur women in the world

Sumaya Kazi (Bengali: সুমাইয়া কাজী or সুমাইয়া আন্দালিব কাজী), a relatively new name of Bangladeshi origin in the world arena influenced globally. Sumaya has been recognized by BusinessWeek as one of America’s “Best Young Entrepreneurs”, CNN as a “Young Person Who Rocks”, Silicon Valley Business Journal as a “Woman of Influence”, and by UTNE Reader Magazine as one of “50 Visionaries Changing Your World”.

She is the founder of Sumazi, which was selected from more than 1,200 start-ups around the world to compete as a finalist at the prestigious TechCrunch Disrupt Start-up Battlefield, where it won the Omidyar Network award for “Startup Most Likely to Change the World”. In 2005, she was one of the first social media managers to lead social strategy at a Fortune 500 company.

Sumaya Kazi was born on 17th July 1982 in Hollywood, California in 1982 and grew up in Moreno Valley, California in United States of America. She is the daughter of Dr. Nizam Uddin Kazi (Bengali: ডক্টর নিজাম উদ্দিন কাজী) and Merina Kazi Totinee (Bengali: মেরিনা কাজী তটিনি) who belongs to Feni, district of Bangladesh. She is the oldest among her 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Sumaya Kazi attended college courses at Riverside Community College, advancing in mathematics while attending Landmark Middle School. Kazi attended Canyon Springs High School too. She attended the University of California, Berkeley graduating in 2004 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Business.

After completing her graduation, she started working at Sun Microsystems as a Senior Social Media Manager for the Global Communications division. At the time of working at Sun Microsystems, at the age of just 23, she founded her first company The CulturalConnect, a media publishing company with a series of online magazines spotlighting young minority professionals and connecting them with each other and the non profit world. She started with the magazine, DesiConnect, reaching out to young movers and shakers of South Asian descent. Dr. Shuvo Roy, a Bangladeshi born American, led a team of 40 researchers in the United states which invents the world’s first implantable artificial kidney

As we learn from Wikipedia, Chronic kidney disease (CKD), also known as chronic renal disease (CRD), is a progressive loss in renal function over a period of months or years. Chronic kidney disease globally resulted in 735,000 deaths in 2010 up from 400,000 deaths in 1990.

This is the information we have in our hand for chronic kidney disease. The above statistics along with the following one in terms of the growing number of transplants is not pleasing one to read-out though.

In this circumstance, the following pieces of information are worth referring as an article written by Gary Becker and Julio Elias on “Introducing Incentives in the market for Live and Cadaveric Organ Donations” estimated the price tag for human kidneys ($15,000); not at all a cheap figure within the reach of majority people globally.

In this situation world-wide, Dr. Shuvo Roy (Bengali: শুভ রায়), PhD, a bio engineer on the faculty of the UCSF School of Pharmacy and the technical director of The artificial kidney project, led a team of 40 researchers in nine laboratories in the United states which invents the world’s first implantable artificial kidney. After successful transplantation, this can be a potential alternative to dialysis and transplants for patients with end-stage kidney failure.

The device has shown such promise that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration selected it as one of three projects for a special fast-track approval process. Researchers hope it will be ready for a human trial in 2017.This is expected that an artificial kidney could be manufactured for $30,000 or less. Testing in animals could begin by about 2016, but it would probably be 2020 or later before the device, if proved effective, could be one to use in regular transplantation.

The artificial kidney device will cost about $20 million to develop and take it through its first clinical trial, though the team has grants and gifts of about $7 million.

The implantable device will mimic the filtration functions of a kidney as well as its ability to maintain water and salt balances, produce Vitamin D and regulate blood pressure and pH. The bio-compatible device will attach to the circulatory system and remove toxins to the bladder as waste. The device will allow patients to live untethered from dialysis machines and eat and drink more normally. Most interestingly, the device can be powered by the human body’s circulatory system.

The man behind all of these, Mr. Shuvo, was born on 10th November 1969 at Rosangiri (Bengali: রোসাংগিরি) in Fotikchori sub-district (Bengali: ফটিকছড়ি উপজেলা) in Chittagong district (Bengali: চট্টগ্রাম) of Bangladesh though some Indian media mistaken and later realized him as the citizen of India.

Mr. Shuvo is the son of Dr Ashok Nath Roy (Bengali: অশোক নাথ রায়) and Mrs. Ratna Roy (Bengali: রত্না রায়). His father is a man from Rosangiri in Fotikchori sub-district and his mother Mrs. Ratna Roy is from Alkoron of Chittagong metropolitan city.  His grandfather, Mr. Nogen Dey, was a professor of English in Sir Kanungopara Ashutosh college of Boyalkhali. He has one younger brother, Joy roy, a vascular surgeon and sister Choity roy, a anesthetic; both of them are residing in USA. His wife, Monica mathuse (Bengali: মনিকা ম্যাথুস) is an US citizen.

In his early life, Mr. Shuvo was admitted to a nursery school of Siddeshari at the age of just 5 years. But they had to go to Uganda for his father’s profession as doctor in 1974. He had completed his secondary certification from Jinja senior secondary school in Uganda. He had gone to USA and completed his under graduation from Mount union college of Oliyons. Overview of Shuvo Roy
Shuvo Roy, PhD, is a bio engineer focusing on the development of medical devices to address unmet clinical needs through strong collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach.

Dr. Roy is a professor at the University of California, San Francisco in the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences (BTS), a joint department of the UCSF Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine, and is a faculty affiliate of the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3). He is the director of the Bio design Laboratory located on the Mission Bay campus. In addition, he serves as the Technical Director of The Kidney Project and is a founding member of the UCSF Pediatric Device Consortium. He has developed and currently teaches a course on medical devices, diagnostics, and therapeutics and regularly lectures on the medical device design process to UCSF graduate students and to national and international academic and industry audiences. He is the author of more than 100 publications and co-author of three book chapters, and holds multiple patents for device developments.

Before joining UCSF in 2008, Roy co-directed the BioMEMS Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, focusing on clinical applications of MEMS. In 1992 he earned a BS degree, magna cum laude, for triple majors in physics, mathematics, and computer science, from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. In 1995, he earned an MS in electrical engineering and applied physics and, in 2001, he earned a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science, both from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is the recipient of a Top 40 under 40 awards by Crain’s Cleveland Business in 1999 and the Clinical Translation Award at the 2nd Annual BioMEMS and Biomedical Nano technology World 2001 meeting. In 2003, Dr. Roy was selected as a recipient of the TR100, which features the world’s 100 Top Young Innovators as selected by Technology Review, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Magazine of Innovation. In 2004, he was presented with a NASA Group Achievement Award for his work on harsh environment MEMS. In 2005, Dr. Roy was named as a Who’s Who in Biotechnology by Crain’s Cleveland Business. In 2005 and 2007, he was recognized as a Cleveland Clinic Innovator. In 2009, he was nominated for the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s Biotech Humanitarian Award, which is given in recognition of an individual who has used biotechnology to unlock its potential to improve the earth. In 2012, he was presented the Rising Star Award by BayBio Pantheon, and in that same year, he received the Innovation Pathway 2.0 Award from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Most recently, he was recognized as a Fellow by the Applied Innovation Institute in 2013.

Dr Hasan Shaheed, a Bangladeshi renowned scientist led a team which invents the first solar helicopter of the world and engaged with his next big thing, controllable capsule robot project

This is Dr. Hasan Shaheed (Bengali: ড.হাসান শহীদ), a Bangladeshi renowned scientist led a team along with Prof. Ante Munjiza which invents the first solar helicopter of the world and engaged with his next big thing, controllable capsule robot project.

The team was consisted of 7 students of Queen Marry university of England. Dr Hasan Shaheed is the Assistant professors of Queen marry university’s school of engineering. Another Bangladeshi, Sakir ahmed, was also in the team.

An Iraqi student, Ali abdai, was started research on solar helicopter in 2011 under Mr. Hasan. The model of the solar helicopter can fly without any problem, the speed too can be controlled; but this helicopter can not run with solar energy, required battery to run.  The team started working on this joined to overcome this problem.  The project of solar helicopter extended to continue in masters level. Another 6 students joined with him in the team and Professor Antonio Munjia also joined with them as assistance coordinator. The focus of the team was to run the helicopter with solar energy with three goals as light, durable, and energy-efficient. The solar run helicopter, named as solar-copter came into existence with a wight of just 1 kilogram. A solar simulator with the combination of halogen lamp was made to determine the flying capacity of the solar-copter. The four wings of the copter started moving after the operation was started with remote control. The solar copter fled up giving surprise to everyone. This is the story of the invention of the first solar copter in the world.

The outer look of solar copter is not our familiar appearance of helicopter. The familiar helicopter has two propeller-one of the top and one the tail or two in the top. But the solar-copter has 4 propellers in 4 corners in equal distance from the center which is known as quad rotor or quad-copter for getting the most solar energy from sun. The news of the solar copter circulated in technology based famous magazine of the world like Gijmag, design book. The world famous TV channel, Discovery, was telecast a report on solar-copter in their daily planet show.

The team members of the solar copter had worked on different aspects-Sakir Ahmed researched on the present condition of solar energy and the potentiality of solar cell to be used for solar copter. Kazimierz Wojewoda researched on size and structure. Jibs Ahmed researched on the materials to be used for solar copter; Aly Abidali worked on the creation of solar panel and other challenges.

Dr Hasan Shaheed was born at Hanua village of Bakerganj sub-district of Barisal district. He had completed secondary and higher secondary school certificate certification from Barisal Cadet College. Later he had completed his graduation as first class first from Dhaka University in applied physics from Electronic and communication engineering department. He had gone to Sheffield university of UK with commonwealth scholarship in September 1997. He researched on the controlling of the hand of robot. Later he completed his PHD degree from Sheffield university of United Kingdom (UK). He had joined in the Queen marry university as professor after completing his PHD in 2001. He is now researching in robotics and control in school of engineering and material science department as a senior professor. He was included in the list of top 100 most influential Bangladeshi (British Bangladeshi power and inspiration) residing in UK. His wife, Ms Mohsina Mahmuda Ferdous, is researching in genetic engineering in PHD level in Bronel University. The couple has as 5 years old daughter Nuyaima.

In 2007, a book, named as Alien: somvabona and Sondhan (Bengali: এলিয়েন: সম্ভাবনা ও সন্ধান) and in 2008, another book, named as, Mohabisser mohakash (Bengali: মহাবিস্ময়ের মহাকাশ) was published from samay prokason (Bengali: সময় প্রকাশন) in Bangladesh. Another book, Parallel Computing for Real-time Signal Processing and Control was published from Springer publisher of England as co-author along with another two authors, M Osman Tokhi, M. Alamgir Hossain. He is now busy with his next big thing, controllable capsule robot project which is already selected for innovation award of Queen’s marry university.

The statistics are no surprise for Bangladeshi own company. The name of the company is, yes, REVE systems. Mr. Rezaul Hassan is the founder and the group CEO of the organization. REVE Systems is IP-based communication industry produces software for cheap Tele-communication. In brief, this is a Telecommunication & Software Solution provider, has a wide assortment of products, ranging from backbone infrastructure to peripheral products, including middle-ware. The company today holds a leadership position in Mobile VoIP, Softswitch & Billing and Bandwidth Optimization solutions. REVE Systems is RED Herring’s 2012 Top 100 Global Winner and has also received many awards for its softswitch iTel Switch Plus, which includes 2012 NGN Leadership Award and 2011 Unified Communication Excellence Award.

The French word, REVE, means dream. The dream of Rezaul Hassan, REVE systems started its operation by 2003. Ajmat Iqbal, a fresh graduate of BUET in Computer science was taking care of the technical side by then. He is now serving as the CEO of the organization. Few days later, Momi Monjil was joined in software development and Raihan Hossain joined in marketing in 2005. They all made the concept and thinking of Rezaul Hassan. At present Momi Monjil is serving as Head – Software Development and Raihan Hossain as Head – Global Sales. Mr. Craig Span takes care of the sales activities of REVE Systems for the North American and South American region. He is a Political Science graduate from George Washington University, Washington, D.C; Craig has been actively working to develop strong customer relationships across the continents.

The first product of the company was billing software, Itel billing, was an automatic bill generator of VOIP telephone call. The team of REVE systems attended in a fair in Thailand through Bangladesh Computer Samiti. With their surprise, a visitor bought their software with cash payment. The team of REVE systems continued developing different products like Itel Mobiile, Call back dialer, PC dialer software. Few months earlier the team came up with a product in GSM mobile world congress in Berselona which can bring new dimension of tide in fixed phone business. With this VOIP call can be made from mobile, but the call will be through fixed phone; will cut the cost.

Rezaul Hassan is the son of a business person, A B M Hasan and housewife, Rabeya hasan. He is the second among 3 of his brothers. He had passed his SSC from Khilgaon Govt. high school in 1982. He had completed his HSC from Notre Dame College. Surprisingly he had completed his graduation in Agro science from Bangladesh agricultural university. Later he had completed his MBA degree from IBA of Dhaka University. In his early career he had switched his career to the field of information and technology from other job in 1998. He had joined in Prosika computer system as Chief executive officer. He had joined in Global network (now aamra network) as Chief executive officer. He organized this organization as specialized corporate internet service provider.

The head office of REVE systems is in Singapore. The main development of software is in Bangladesh and India. The REVE Systems has more offices in US, UK, Lebanon, Jordan and Pakistan.

The wife of Rezaul Hassan, Monnujan Nargis is a pharmacist, works along with him in his business. They joined to start a fashion house, La REVE in few years earlier.

REVE systems has attended in international information and technology fairs like Communication Asia, Gtex, Mobile congress in each year. Do you know the start of the company? The company was started from a garage of Khilgaon area of Dhaka with just 6 employees and the number of the employees of the company has grown up to 300 now.

A planetarium of USA named after Bangladeshi born scientist Dr. Sultana ahmed khan

A planetarium of Elizabeth City State University is named after Bangladeshi born physics professor Dr. Sultana A. Khan (Bengali: অধ্যাপক সুলতানা আহমেদ খান).She was a long-time director of the institute, a physics professor and recipient of the UNC Board of Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award, has been the facility’s director since its inception in 1990.

Dr. Ali Khan, provost and vice-chancellor of the ECSU Division of Academic Affairs, is her husband and their son, Dr. Ahmed Khan, is a physician.

The ceremony was happened 33 years of her employment for Dr. Khan at ECSU in 8th January 2014 (Tuesday) in the presence of Akramul kader, diplomat of Bangladesh, Dr. Wilie J. Gilchrist, Chancellor of the university, Bishop arnest R. Sutton, member of trusty board, Dr. Gimie R. Genkinsong, President of Living stone college, and many other .

Sultana ahmed khan was joined in this university in 1978 as a professor. She had played a special role in making this planetarium in 1990. She is the director of this planetarium. She researched with a focus on metal-insulator transitions and solar energy research with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Her teaching interests include electricity and magnetism, astronomy, optics, thermodynamics, modern physics, mechanics and mathematical methods of physics.

This is noteworthy that the planetarium opened on 23rd January, 1990, with a visit from then-Gov. James G. Martin. At that time, the planetarium consisted of a 30-foot dome with a Uni-directional classroom seating 54 and a SPITZ 512 star projector. The planetarium has grown and currently is equipped with 60 uniquely designed planetarium chairs, more than 40 automated mechanical projectors and a collection of advanced audio-visual equipment, three screens of full-motion video from DVD, laser disc or VHS and a professional theater-quality sound system

Dr. Sultana A. Khan was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She completed her bachelor’s degree in physics in 1970 and her master’s in physics in 1972 from the University of Dhaka. She completed her doctorate in physics from the University of Scientific & Medical of Grenoble in France in 1977. She arrived at ECSU in 1978 and recently retired.

After the ceremony, ECSU Chancellor Willie J. Gilchrist assisted Dr. Sultana A. Khan in the unveiling of her portrait which is hanging in the lobby outside of the planetarium.

Sara hossain, A Bangladeshi girl, received Minister Award by the New South Wells Government’s Department of Education and Training of Australia

A Bangladeshi girl, Sara hossain had received “Minister Award” by the New South Wells Government’s Department of Education and Training of Australia on 30th September 2013 at the Clancy Auditorium of University of NSW. Sara hossain, student of aping west public school of Sydney, is the first Bengali speaking person who received this prestigious award for etymological knowledge on Bengali language. The award is given for the students who excelled at their language and cultural studies at a Community Language School. Despite the Bengali people are residing in Australia for more than 50 years, this is Sara hossain, who received this prestigious award for first time in the history. This is the most prestigious award for learning language in Australia.

Sara had learned writing, reading, speaking and extra-curricular activities in a Bengali school, Bangla academy Australia for last seven years. Apart from this, another three Bengali students studying in different branches Bangla academy, Australia, received commendable and highly commendable award.  They are Sotabdi rashed of Bolkam hills high school of black town branch of Bangla academy, A S M Shahriar Ifti of Waili Pak public school of Lakemba branch of Bangla academy for Commendable award. Apart from these two, another student, Asa hossain, of Horonsbi girl’s high school, aping branch of Bangla academy had received highly commendable award.

The ministry of education of new south wells of Australia awards “Minister Award” to 10 students who had progressed from all corners in language learning from all over North South Wells. The education minister delivers the award. Sara was included in the list of top 10 for this year by competing among 30000 students of 60 different languages speaking community. The other languages of the competition were Armenian, Singolees, Tamil, Portuguese, China, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian, and Polish along with Bengali.
