Uching Loyen, the first Rakhain teacher of any public university in Bangladesh

Uching Loyen (Bengali: উচিং লয়েন) became the first ever teacher of any public university from the Rakhain community in Bangladesh. He is from chatanaparaya of Taltoli sub-district in Barguna.

Uching developed the tendency to rank ‘first’ from the first standard and so he was able to study without any education fee from the 1st standard to Higher Secondary (HSC). He passed Secondary School (SSC) from Taltoli high school in 2005 and after two years, he passed Highser Secondary (HSC) from Taltoli Degree College with GPA-5 in both the exams. He received a scholarship from the Barisal board based on the results of HSC.

He was admitted in the newly opened ‘Tourism and Hospitality Management’ in 2007-2008 education year with the help of a distant uncle. Initially the address of the first batch student was in Jagannath Hall.He ranked 4th with first class in the under-graduation level. Consequently he ranked 2nd with the first class in the Master’s level.He has also been recently qualified for 34th BCS.

This brilliant student of the Faculty of Business Studies received ‘Deans Award’, ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust education scholarship’.

On July 1st, 2015, he added his name in the history of Bangladesh when he got appointment as the lecturer of Dhaka University. He became the first ever ethnic Rakhain man who is the first ever Rakhain teacher in any public university in Bangladesh. He started his class on August, 2nd as lecturer.

Sebastian Rema, the first deputy secretary from Garo community

Sebastian Rema (Bengali: সেবাস্টিন রেমা) became the first ever Deputy Secretary of the Garo community in Bangladesh. Before being promoted to the post of Deputy Secretary, he was the Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration. Earlier he served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue)in Gazipur district. He once served as Chief Executive Officer (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) in Austagram sub-district in Kishoreganj district.

On April 6th, 873 officials were promoted in three-tier of the administration. Among them 343 officers were promoted to the post of Deputy Secretary. Sebastian Rema was also included in the list.

Mor Thengari , The name of the first movie in Chakma language in Bangladesh

There is a saying that let a hundred flowers bloom! Once upon a time, people of this country had to fight with Pakistan which was originated when the right of mother language was being denied by the state. The country whose independence had inspired or influenced by Language movement is susceptible to the right of other language. Hundred of flowers let bloom in this country. One of the examples is the making of the movie, Mor Thengari.

Mor Thengari (Bengali: মর থেংগারি), is the first movie of Bangladesh which used Chakma as the language. In English, Mor Thengari means my bi-cycle. The director of the movie is Aung Rakhain (Bengali: অং রাখাইন).

This movie was first shown in February, 2015. This movie was shown in different countries as well. Even it was shown in ‘16th Rainbow Film Festival’ in London on 25th, May, 2015. The one hour and four minutes long film portrays the life and struggle of Chakma society. 10 Chakma persons including a woman were the debutant actors in this legendary movie.
