National and Religious Holidays in Bangladesh

Bangladesh national holidays provide a great opportunity to see the colourful celebrations common to the land. However they can also cause certain inconveniences, such as the closure of shops, the unavailability of public transport or the blockage of roads. However if you are prepared for such occurrences, you are far less likely to be bothered by them and far more likely to simply enjoy the experience.

There are a number of national holidays in Bangladesh that are celebrated annually. There are a few fixed public holidays that are celebrated on the same day of each year. Then there are a number of religious holidays which are observed on days set according to lunar cycles and astronomical observations. Because of the varied nature of these dates, it is impossible to say precisely when they will occur each year. We have therefore provided a list of the various national holidays in Bangladesh under two main categories – fixed public holidays and religious holidays. Even so, it is wise to note that the date of certain fixed holidays may change by a day or so and that religious holidays may vary by as much as a month. If you think that the event will have a large impact on your travels, it would be advisable to contact the government so as to ascertain the precise date of the holiday for that particular year.
