Eng. Habib Shaheen Tarafder, a Bangladeshi invented the driving direction of US in Bengali through GPS system

According to the top native speakers list in the 2007 edition of Nationalencyklopedin, the total number of native speakers of Bengali is 200 millions in 2007 and 205 millions in 2010. This constitutes the 3.05% of the world population (2007). The statistics also shows that Bengali (Bangla) is the 7th top languages spoken in the world*.

Bangla is the language which carries the emotion of the people of Bangladesh and a part of India (West Bengal, Assam, Tripura etc.). This is the language for which people sacrificed their lives in 1952. Even the language of that time drives the country toward independent Bangladesh. The sacrifice of language martyr’s is also acknowledged and recognized by the world humanity. As part of the recognition, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced first on 17 November 1999 and later it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution (section-24, page no.4) establishing 21st February as the ‘International Mother Language Day’**.

People of this part of the world feel proud when such news arrived in. One of the news is one of the inventions of Eng. Habib Shaheen Tarafder (Bengali: প্রকৌশলী হাবিব শাহীন তরফদার). The invention is significant as Bengali speaking drivers can listen the necessary direction in Bengali while driving in US through GPS (Global Positioning System) system.

As a result of his innovation, the expatriate Bangladeshi drivers can listen the driving instruction in standard Bengali voice, and in the accent of the voice of Sylhet, Chittagong, Noakhali, Barisal, Old Dhaka, Pabna. This can be downloaded from GPSbangla.com. Then it can be used at Garmin GPS.

This is noteworthy that GPS navigation system is the most acceptable and scientific way to solve the traffic problem in the United States and the other developed countries. Through the use of this technology, directions to determine the right path in a new city, fines for the violation of traffic laws, road accidents and even car theft can be prevented.

He belongs to the town of Jessore. He studied in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Later he went to the Ohio State of United States of America to complete his graduation in engineering with scholarship.
