A journey by Water Bus

From the childhood, students are used to learn essays on various topics including A Journey by Bus, Train or Boat. But this is quite unusual for the residents of Dhaka Mega-city having experience the services of water Bus which gives a taste of a different Journey by Water Bus.The service of water bus was inaugurated on Buriganga River.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) introduced this service on the 16 KM Gabtoli-Sadarghat route on August, 28, 2010 with a fleet of two buses. BIWTC expanded its fleet to 6 in 2013, launching another 4 water buses on the river route. With addition of another 6 buses in November 2014, the total number of fleet grows to 12. The buses are driven by two 75 horse-power engines giving them the highest speed of 12 nautical miles per hour allowing to reach Gabtoli from Sadarghat in 50 minutes.

There are three stoppages at Bosila, Kholamura and Swarighat on the Badamtoli-Sadarghat route. The fare from Gabtali Waterbus Landing Station to Bosila, Kholamura and Swarighat and Badamtoli/Sadarghat are fixed at Tk. 25, Tk. 30, Tk. 35 and Tk. 40 successively.
