Abdullah H Kafi, the first Chairman of The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) from Bangladesh
The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) is an organization consisted of various organizations of ICT sector of 22 countries of Asia-Oceania region.
ASOCIO was established in 1984 from Tokyo, Japan with the objective to promote, encourage and foster relationships and trade between its members, and to develop the computing industry in the region.
Presently, ASOCIO represents the interests of 29 economies, comprising 22 members from Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and seven guest members from USA, UK, Canada, Spain, Russia, France, and Kenya. Today, ASOCIO’s members account for more than 10,000 ICT companies and represent approximately US$350 billion of ICT revenue in the region.
Bangladesh has been involved with this organization for long since. Abdullah H Kafi has taken the responsibility of Chairman of ASSOCIO and will act as the chairman till the end of 2014 as the duration of the post of chairman is for 2 years.. This is noteworthy that a representative from the developing counties is taking the responsibility of Chairman for first time for this organization.
Abdullah H Kafi along with fellow Board of Officers were elected and appointed for the 2013 term at the General Assembly held on 15th November 2012 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Abdullah H Kafi was a president of Bangladesh computer samiti. Bangladesh computer samiti was taken the membership of ASSOCIO in 1995.
